Elton John once witnessed the Queen repeatedly ‘slap her nephew’ during a party

The 72-year-old said he saw the royal playfully discipline Princess Margaret’s son Viscount Linley when he tried to argue. According to Elton’s autobiography Me, the Queen had said: ‘Don’t argue with me, I am the Queen!’ On the amusing incident, he had written: ‘I know the Queen’s public image isn’t exactly one of wild frivolity, but… in private, she could be hilarious. ‘I saw her approach Viscount Linley and ask him to look in on his sister, who’d been taken ill and head retired to her room. ‘When he repeatedly tried to fob her off, the Queen lightly slapped him across the face, saying, “Don’t” – SLAP – “argue” – SLAP – “with” – SLAP – “me” – SLAP – “I” – SLAP – “am” – SLAP – “THE QUEEN!”’
The Viscount apparently scurried away to complete the Queen’s wishes. ‘As he left, she saw me staring at her, gave me a wink and walked off,’ the Your Song singer continued. The Viscount, who is also the second Earl of Snowdon, is the son of the Queen’s only sister and her husband Antony Armstrong-Jones. According to his book, Sir Elton revealed that Richard Gere and Sylvester Stallone fought over Princess Diana at a dinner party. ‘The most peculiar scene developed,’ he said about the princess after her divorce. ‘Straight away, Richard Gere and Diana seemed very taken with each other.’
Even more peculiarly, the exchange didn’t bode well with Sylvester as the two later argued in a corridor apparently about to settle their difference over Diana by having a fist-fight. Now that would have been a scene we would have loved to watch.
