Two people have been arrested on suspicion of neglect after a nine-year-old boy was found on Brighton beach in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The boy was taken into police protection after being found at 2am under the pier during the high winds, which are still reaching 47mph.
He was found by members of Brighton Beach Patrol.
A Sussex Police statement said: “Two adults have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and remain in custody at this stage.
“The investigation is ongoing, and for this reason we would urge members of the public not to speculate around the circumstances.”
Although reports suggest that the boy was with the two people who were arrested when he was found, Sussex Police could not confirm this when questioned by Sky News.
According to the Brighton Argus, he was camping under the pier at the time.
Much of the country was hit by strong winds and heavy rain overnight on Friday, with a yellow weather warning in place along the south coast.
