New Jersey rally led by Eric Garner mother

Black Lives Matter activists protested outside the City Hall in New Brunswick, New Jersey led by Gwen Carr, the mother of Eric Garner, who died at the hands of police six years ago.
The protesters initially marched through New Brunswick, holding placards and chanting slogans, before reaching the City Hall, where several activists — including Gwen Carr — took turns to address the crowd.
“Vote for the right people, because if we don’t have the right people in office, no matter how many laws are passed, or there won’t be laws passed, and nothing will be done. Just like in New York, I had like four laws passed that my name was on. The Eric Garner Anti-Chokehold Law was passed, and I’m trying to make that nationwide,” said Carr.
Eric Garner died on July 17, 2014 after a police officer put him in a chokehold as multiple NYPD officers tried to detain him on charges of selling loose cigarettes. Garner was unarmed at the time of his death.
Along with George Floyd, Philando Castile, Freddie Gray, Breonna Taylor, Michael Brown, and Tamir Rice, Eric Garner has become one of the many names evoked in protests against police brutality across the US and around the world.
