Queen’s grandson Peter Phillips ‘amicably’ splits from wife Autumn

The Queen’s grandson, Peter Phillips, and his wife Autumn have announced their separation.

The couple, who married in Windsor in 2008, have said they are in the process of divorcing, and will share custody of their two daughters – nine-year-old Savannah and seven-year-old Isla.

According to a spokesman for the pair, the decision was taken after many months of discussion, and they told the Queen and their families last year.

The spokesman said: “They had reached the conclusion that this was the best course of action for their two children and ongoing friendship.

“The decision to divorce and share custody came about after many months of discussions and, although sad, is an amicable one.

“The couple’s first priority will remain the continued wellbeing and upbringing of their wonderful daughters, Savannah and Isla.”Both families were naturally sad at the announcement, but fully supportive of Peter and Autumn in the joint decision to co parent their children.”

“Both Peter and Autumn have remained in Gloucestershire to bring up their two children where they have been settled for a number of years.”

The pair have asked for “privacy and compassion” for their children while the family adapts to the changes.

Mr Phillips met his wife in Canada in 2003 while working on the country’s F1 race, and will become the first of the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh’s grandchildren to divorce.

Mr Phillips is 15th in line to the throne and is the son of Princess Anne and her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips.

In January, it was revealed that he had been advertising Jersey Milk on Chinese TV, touting his credentials as a member of the Royal Family.

Their split comes amid a testing time for the royal family, following the Sussexes’ decision to step back from royal life, and the allegations levelled at Prince Andrew and his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein – which he strenuously denies.

The family’s turbulent time has drawn links to the Queen’s annus horribilis of 1992, which saw the marriages of Princess Anne Captain Mark Phillips, the Duke and Duchess of York and the Prince and Princess of Wales all breaking down in the same year.
