Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore said that Americans are being led into an unwitting war with Iran after the United States killed Qassem Soleimani.
Moore, 65, posted a photo of the dead Iranian military commander on Twitter Friday morning along with a rhetorical monologue to American citizens.
“Hello fellow Americans. Do you know this man? Did you know he was your enemy? What? Never heard of him? By the end of today you will be trained to hate him,” Moore said.
“You will be glad Trump had him assassinated. You will do as you are told. Get ready to send your sons & daughters off 2 war,” he added.
Soleimani, 62, was killed in a U.S. drone strike near Baghdad International Airport. The general was one of the top military leaders in Iran. The country’s leader warned in the aftermath that the U.S. will face “ severe revenge” for the targeted attack.
Democratic front-runner Joe Biden and other Democratic presidential candidates criticized the drone strike. The former vice president said that the attack against Soleimani could lead to “ multiple Iranian attacks by multiple means on multiple targets.”
Soleimani was the long-time leader of the Quds Force, a branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and is responsible for the deaths of more than 600 American soldiers during the Iraq War. He was known for traveling about the Middle East and coordinating with and assisting Iranian proxies in attacking the U.S. and U.S. interests in the region.
